The Devil’s Chicken

I don’t watch much cinema (Yeah, I didn’t expect it to go there after that title either).

I am criminally under-watched – there are so many classics I’ve not seen. The list is really quite long and this is before we get to the under the radar (Hello, lovely magazine) classics as well. However, I’m hoping to change that this year. I have a list I want to work through and I’m also hoping to watch more new stuff. I started this with Parasite this weekend. All I can say is I very much hope you go and see it.

I can’t see Mark Kermode losing his job anytime soon.

I mean I could link it being over looked at the Oscars to poetry awards and deserving poets being overlooked, etc, but I think Bong Joon Ho has it about right when he said of his film being overlooked ““the Oscars are not an international film festival. They’re very local.”

I’ve not got much else to say for myself, I’ve been so wrapped up in doing Red January that my spare time has been spent on the hoof.

And, if I’m brutally honest, I’m feeling a shade on the delicate side today after my first booze of the year..and the second, third, fourth, etc…

There has been some writing this week. One poem has been tipped over the edge into being finished (for now) and a couple of others are on the verge. There was even some writing today before the hangover kicked in, but for now it’s all about cooking the devil’s chicken.

Get Thee Behind Me, Bantam

One spurious connection (and you know how I love a spurious connection) is that Chicken is also known as Pollo in Italian. There is a picture of one chicken above (stick with me), there for a Pollo (apologies to any Italian speakers). Apollo was the god of divine distance and last night I agreed to sign up for the Race To The King —which is a 53 mile race (over 2 days). I will be asking for your charitable donations in due course.
